The Mackintosh House
Esteemed Art Nouveau artist and architect Charles Mackintosh is a pretty big deal in Glasgow. Born and educated in the city, he was responsible for designing many of Glasgow's most celebrated buildings including the Glasgow School of Art, Queens Cross Church, and The Lighthouse, Scotland’s centre for architecture and design.
As a tribute to the much-loved Glaswegian, The Mackintosh House was built by meticulously reconstructing the interiors of the house where Charles Mackintosh lived with his wife, artist Mary MacDonald. Wander around each room to absorb the startling and alluring interior decor, which includes original pieces of furniture from the real Mackintosh home.
Botanic Gardens and Kibble Palace
Glasgow’s superb Botanic Gardens offer visitors the perfect sanctuary far from the hustle and bustle of the city, located in the West End. The sprawling green oasis of manicured gardens and woodland walks features a range of architecturally beautiful historic glasshouses, home to a diverse collection of temperate and tropical plants.
The most impressive of all the glasshouses is Kibble Palace, a magnificent structure of wrought iron and glass. Wander around the extensive collection of ferns and palms in the grand Kibble Palace and admire the beautiful marble statues including the popular ‘Eve’.
