Stylish shopping on your doorstep

Step out of your hotel and round the corner to the best shopping strip in Halifax. Spring Garden Road runs for nine city blocks and boasts more than 200 stores, some alongside the Halifax Public Gardens. With restaurants and cafes dotted throughout the boutiques and speciality shops, the area is busy day and night.

Rows of historic buildings line the streets creating a handsome district that is popular with the city’s trendsetters and a pleasure to walk through. You can take a peek into some of the many bespoke boutiques and pick up a one-of-a-kind garment, or settle into a cafe to enjoy some people-watching.

On guard at Citadel Hill

The Lord Nelson is located close to grassy Citadel Hill. At the top of the hill lives Halifax Citadel Fort. From here, you will be rewarded with sweeping views of the city and harbour. The fort was the first building constructed in the area by the British military in 1749. As the fort grew, so did the town. Today, it’s a fun place to visit to step back in time.

Take a guided tour and explore the museum, which showcases old uniforms, weapons, and models of forts and soldiers. This historic site comes alive every day with colourful re-enactments in full uniform and marching band drills. The Royal Artillery fires the Noon Gun every day, and the sentry guarding the front gate changes on the hour.
