Discover the National History Museum

Home to an impressive collection of more than 13 million objects, this revered museum houses more than 50 percent of Finland’s scientific items and artefacts. Botany enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to the herbarium, which houses upwards of three million international and local fauna and fungi types, while geology buffs will delight in the extensive rock and mineral collections.

A sprawling taxidermy section illustrates the historic evolution of this practice and showcases an African elephant, polar bear and a range of fish, mammals and birdlife that have been immortalised by iconic taxidermists. The Story of the Bones exhibition guides you through the bare bones of vertebrates and allows you to get up close to enormous dinosaurs.

Visit the revered Temppeliaukio Church

Touted as the Church of the Rock, the Temppeliaukio Church is famed for its stunning architecture and its double life as a concert hall. This unique and beautifully designed space was crafted by brother architects Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen in1969, and has gone on to become one of Helsinki’s best-loved sites.

Crafted from layers of solid rock, the interior is bathed in natural light that streams through the glazed copper dome. Cap off your visit with a traditional Finnish meal at one of the nearby cafes.
