Pay homage to Hiroshima history

6 August 1945 casts a long shadow over the history of Hiroshima, which is what draws most travellers to this destination. Learn of the city's history pre and post 1945 at the Peace Memorial Park, which stands in memory of the fallen and as a statement to world peace. Outside the park, discover Hiroshima's ancient history at sites such as Chuo Park, Hiroshima Castle and Fudoin.

If you're hoping to spend your time exploring the many notable exhibits of Peace Memorial Park, there are plenty of hotels nearby that offer easy access on foot. The Aster Plaza International provides western and Japanese-style rooms at incredible rates. It is also only minutes from the park as well as the Funairimachi Tram Station.

Cheer on Japanese sports

Hiroshima is a city that enjoys its recreation with a number of professional and semi-professional teams. Take in a Carps baseball game at the Mazda Zoom Zoom Stadium to witness diehard fandom at its best, or discover the Japanese zest for soccer at a Sanfrecce game. With many staying options close by, it's easy to get into the spirit of Hiroshima's sports.

The Vessel Inn Hiroshima Ekimae is an ideal choice for sports fans as it features a convenient position close to the Carps' stadium. It is also situated in the heart of downtown Hiroshima, with easy access to  the train station and Hacchobori.

Explore the Seto Insland Sea

Hiroshima rewards those that choose to travel beyond the city boundaries, with a number of notable experiences located close by. Ferries are available from the city to explore the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. This includes Miyajima – a spiritual destination known for its natural beauty, traditional Japanese Edo-era architecture and floating torii gate.

Bunk up near the centre of Hiroshima for a day trip to these surrounding islands, or you may want to consider accommodation on the island of Miyajima. There are a number of hotels and B&Bs available, including the Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto that offers western and Japanese-style rooms close to the Itsukushima Shrine, Goju-no Tou and Grand Torii gate.
