Visit historic Hiroshima Castle
Originally built in 1589 and painstakingly rebuilt following Hiroshima's destruction in 1945, Hiroshima Castle is one of the city's top visitor attractions. Rebuilt using strictly traditional materials and techniques, the restored castle still captures the atmosphere of feudal Japan within its moated grounds.
Ascend to the top to enjoy spectacular panoramic views over modern Hiroshima and visit the on-site museum for a detailed history of the Castle and the reconstruction project. During the spring time, 350 cherry trees transform the Castle's grounds into a fairy-tale scene, with beautiful pink blossoms colouring the paths and golden koi carp swimming in the moat.
See the collections at MOCA
Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) was the first of its kind in Japan, dedicated to modern artworks with no restrictions set on style or country of origin. The building itself strives for a blank canvas with its abstract and contemporary facade, inviting visitors to browse its diverse galleries with an open mind.
The Museum exhibits the best and most-challenging art of the 20th and 21st Centuries from all cultures. Henry Moore sculptures and Andy Warhol prints sit alongside the surreal paintings of Aimitsu. MOCA is located adjacent to Hiroshima's pleasant Hijiyama Park, where you can enjoy views of the city.
