Climb ‘The Mountain’

Mount Wellington is a must-see for any visitor to Hobart. Known by the locals simply as ‘The Mountain’, Mount Wellington attracts more than 300,000 tourists from all over the world every year.

Rising more than 1,271 metres above sea level, Mount Wellington presides over Hobart and offers spectacular views of the city and surrounding area, including the Derwent River and the protected wilderness forest to the west of the city. The mountaintop is often covered in snow, even during the summer months. The National Park is just a 20-minute drive from your hotel, and once there you can choose to hike, cycle or drive to the summit.

Visit historic Richmond

Venture a little further out of Hobart to one of Tasmania’s most significant colonial towns and most popular tourist destinations. A short 25-minute drive from your hotel will get you to the classically historic town of Richmond. Nestled in the Coal River Valley, Richmond was established in the early 1800s as a military post and convict settlement.

These days it’s home to craft boutiques, art galleries, teashops, fine-dining restaurants and award-winning wineries. Richmond has retained its village atmosphere and is famous for its classic Georgian architecture, National Trust buildings and Australia’s oldest bridge, which dates back to 1823.
