Exploring the Zoological and Botanical Gardens
Located on the picturesque northern slope of Victoria Peak, the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens date back to 1871 and cover an area of 5.6 hectares. You can easily spend a whole day wandering the exotic outdoor gardens, aviary, mammal enclosure, reptile house and other attractions.
About half of the Gardens' land is reserved for zoological exhibits, where you can find fascinating creatures such as the Bornean orangutan, emperor tamarin, Hawaiian goose, radiated tortoise and white-faced saki. You can also find more than 1,000 species of indigenous, tropical and sub-tropical plants. Break up the day with a refreshing beverage at the kiosk, before learning something new at the Education and Exhibition Centre.
Hiking along the Dragon’s Back
One of the biggest draw cards for travellers to Hong Kong is not just its thriving city, but also the natural landscape that surrounds it. You can venture along the nearby Dragon’s Back trail. It's less than one hour from the city, so you have the benefit of being close to the city centre while also feeling miles away.
Dragon’s Back is relatively easy to walk and its main attractions include the stunning views that open up all around you. To the east is the picturesque Clear Water Bay Peninsula and to the west you can see the Stanley Peninsula and the South China Sea. At the foot of the hike is the popular Shek O village, which boasts white beaches and a collection of restaurants.
