Maiden's Tower

On a small inlet on the opposite bank of the Bosphorus, the lonely stone Byzantine Maiden's Tower sits illuminating the water across the southern entrance of the strait. According to the legend behind the name, an emperor locked his daughter away in the tower to keep her safe after an oracle predicted a snake would kill her.

Although the origins of the tower are not known, it is believed to be around 1,000 years old, and is a true architectural icon of the city. Visitors can enjoy lunch at the restaurant at the first floor of the eight-storey tower, which also features a cafe with great views on the top floor.
