The Ottoman Empire's palace
Just along the shoreline, a short stroll from the hotel, stands Dolmabahce Palace, one of the most glamorous palaces in the world. Sitting right on the Bosphorus waterfront, this captivating 19th-Century palace served as the administrative centre for the Ottoman Empire between 1856 and 1922.
The palace is divided into two distinct sections: the Haremlik, which was the private living quarters of the imperial family; and the Selamlik, where the Sultan would meet public figures, government officials and diplomats. Visitors can wander around both parts of the palace and admire the opulent furnishings including an impressive crystal chandelier in the Ceremonial Chamber.
One of the most beautiful examples of a Byzantine church, the 16th-Century Chora Church now operates as a secular museum, delighting visitors with its exquisite architecture and wonderful frescoed and mosaicked interiors. Located in one of Istanbul's oldest districts, Chora Church was originally called 'Church of the Holy Saviour Outside the Walls', as it was built outside the original city walls constructed by Constantine the Great.
Admire the incredible mosaic artwork depicting the lives of Christ and the Virgin Mary, including the wonderful Genealogy of Christ on the dome of the church. After visiting the church, you may want to take time to climb the nearby city walls for fabulous views over the city.
