Designer goods at the Sunday Bazaar
Karachi’s Sunday Bazaar is unlike many flea markets around the world for one thing – it sells authentic designer goods at bargain prices. Rise early on a Sunday morning and head to Phase 8, a short drive from your hotel, where you’ll find a mishmash of quality goods and eclectic wares spread out over hand-woven rugs and makeshift stalls.
A haven for those who love a bit of retail therapy, there is something here for everyone. You’ll find authentic second-hand designer handbags, clothing and sunglasses at very reasonable prices; plus they’re open to bartering. The market also sells fresh produce, jewellery, crockery, art, music and more.
Go snorkelling at Churna Island
Escape the dusty streets of downtown Karachi for a day of snorkelling in the azure Arabian waters around Churna Island. A picturesque drive north through countryside scattered with traditional straw huts will lead you to the tiny fishing village of Mubarak. From here, take a short boat trip across to the uninhabited Churna Island.
While the barren island itself has little to offer, the waters around it are teeming with marine life including barracuda, tuna, angelfish and sea urchins. It’s speculated that there are more than 60 types of coral in the waters here, many of which have flourished since the 2005 Indian Ocean tsunami.
