See the half-buried Buddha

Wat Phra Thong is the Temple of the Gold Buddha in Phuket. One of the unique features of this temple is that it is half buried – only the Buddha's head and shoulders can be seen above ground. Over the years, a number of people have tried to uncover the statue, but legend says that serious accidents or illnesses have befallen those unfortunate people, so the deity stays as it is.

This temple is special for the Thai Chinese, who believe that the Buddha is originally from China. There are other Buddha images in the temple, too. Each is said to provide a different benefit for people who make offerings, such as health or wealth.
