Attractions near the Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket

Watch the sunset at Promthep Cape

The southernmost point on the island of Phuket is Promthep, which is the most popular place to catch the golden sunset. The elevated location gives a good view and you can see some of the nearby small islands. Near sunset, tourists can line up at the cape, facing west expectantly as the sun nears the horizon. The sunsets are certainly breathtaking, but sometimes the people-watching is just as much fun.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can leave the crowds behind and walk all the way out to the furthest point of the cape. There is also a lighthouse with a small museum, and of course, plenty of souvenir sellers.

Charming Old Phuket Town

Spend some time exploring Old Phuket Town, a historical area built when Phuket was rich from the tin boom. As you stroll through the streets you will discover fabulous Sino-colonial mansions where tin barons lived a century ago. There are wonderfully preserved shops, houses, shrines and temples, and the city shows its unique personality.

One of the most important temples is the Buddhist temple Wat Chalong, dedicated to two monks who led the fighting during the 1876 Chinese rebellion, and aided the wounded with their herbal medicines. The area is easy to explore on foot, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafés to stop at when you're in need of a break.
