Along the foreshore

Being one of the oldest neighbourhoods of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Kingston offers travellers the chance to delve into the charm and history of Canberra's surrounds. This is especially true along the foreshore. It's quickly becoming a trendy hangout for locals and travellers alike thanks to a burgeoning dining scene and weekly markets at the Old Bus Depot.

There are a number of accommodation options situated within close proximity to the foreshore and its famous markets. The Best Western Motel Monaro provides a 3.5-star stay, or you might want to consider a smaller boutique. The York Canberra is a great choice with a fitness centre and available children's activities.

The charm of Kingston

The charm and history of Kingston can still be felt in its many Heritage-listed buildings. This includes the Kingston Powerhouse, which is the oldest building in the ACT. It is now home to the Canberra Glassworks gallery, which makes it worth a visit for historic and modern fun.

Enjoying the charm of Kingston can be done in any number of its available accommodation. The suburb is fairly compact and easy to get around, making it ideal for curious travellers. Hotels such as East Hotel is a great, centrally located place to stay within walking distance to such area attractions as Manuka Oval, the Kingston Shops and Manuka Village.

Overnight outside of town

Situated only four kilometres outside of Canberra, Kingston is a great choice for visitors to the Australian capital. You may want to consider a trip to the Black Mountain Tower for unbelievable panoramic views across the capital city, or head to the National Gallery and War Memorial for a look into Australia's history.

As Kingston and Canberra are so close, it's easy to book your accommodation in either city to ensure the opportunity to explore every inch of both. It's a star studded affair in Canberra with such big names as Hyatt, Novotel and Mercure providing 4- and 5-star hotels. Alternatively, Clifton Suites on Northbourne provides spacious rooms within minutes to the War Memorial.
