Work up an appetite at 1Borneo

With your hotel’s location next to 1Borneo Hypermall, it would be difficult not to recommend spending some time here. As East Malaysia’s biggest shopping centre it’s home to brand names like French Connection, Esprit and Nine West, alongside unique Malaysian outlets. It’s a huge place so walking around will work up an appetite – but with around 80 dining establishments available you’ll have no problem finding a place to eat.

Home’s Café and Restaurant on the lower ground floor serves up great Asian dishes. The Lotus Root Chicken soup is especially tasty, as is the grilled fish coated with local spices. La Fuente on the ground floor brings a little bit of Europe to Asia. Come here to fill up on great Spanish food if you’re looking for a change from satay and spice.

Wander around the waterfront

Make good use of your hotel’s shuttle bus to the city and take a trip to the Waterfront. This bustling precinct is a great place to spend a day – soak up the vibrant atmosphere, enjoy some people watching and get a feel for the city.

Built on reclaimed land, the Waterfront is Kota Kinabalu’s main shopping and entertainment district. Check out the Filipino Markets where you can buy a range of arts and crafts made mainly by Filipino immigrants, or savour some of the offerings from the food stalls dotted around. You’re guaranteed cheap and tasty street food every time.
