Savour the local seafood
With a great location in central Kota Kinabalu it’s easy to find quality restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. This city is particularly well known for its excellent supply of fresh local seafood, so a visit to at least one seafood restaurant is a must-do.
Ocean Seafood Village in the Api-Api Centre is a favourite with locals and visitors alike. Facing the South China Sea, this restaurant offers a huge variety of freshly caught seafood dishes at very reasonable prices. Diners are invited to choose their own meal, then the kitchen will prepare it as you like. The grouper in curry sauce, wild tiger prawns, and black crabs and lobster in butter sauce are just some of the dishes on offer. There is a small wine list to complement your meal, too.
Visit the night markets
In the evening, head down to the Night Market which takes places just underneath your hotel. This is where many of the locals shop for produce, but there is also an array of quirky and quality market goods on display. Get your must-have ‘designer’ watch (copied, of course), locally-made craft items and pearls caught just off the coast.
If you haven’t already eaten – or even if you have – be sure to try some of the food stalls. There’s nothing better than freshly cooked street food, and at roughly 4MR (about $1.30AUD) for a meal, you’ll be sure to return night after night to feast on the local delicacies.
