Visit the Chinese History Museum

Walk a short distance from your hotel and discover Sarawak’s fascinating past at the Chinese History Museum. Originally the headquarters of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Sarawak, these days the museum displays exhibits that tell the stories of the region’s first pioneers, early and traditional trade routes, political history, and the involvement of the Chinese people in modern Sarawak.

For visitors wanting to trace the evolution of Chinese culture in Sarawak, a visit to this waterfront museum is a must. For first time travellers to this part of the world it’s a great introduction to Kuching. There are no entrance fees, although small donations are more than welcome.

See Tua Pek Kong Temple

A visit to Kuching isn’t complete without entering its oldest Chinese temple. Dating back to the 1800’s, Tua Pek Kong Temple is a significant historical site, symbolising the importance of the Chinese community in Kuching.

It’s hard not to spot this colourful temple, located right next to the scenic Sarawak River and Main Bazaar. The temple retains a traditional charm with its richly decorated interior. Bright paintings, red lanterns, candleholders, and the smell of incense all make for a sensory experience. Known for having the best Feng Shui in the city, the temple serves as a great location from which to feel the beauty of Kuching.
