Exploring Madrid’s foodie paradise

Only a few minutes’ walk from the hotel is El Mercado de los Mostenses (Mostenses Market). This historic food market was established in 1875 by King Alfonso XII and has since been rebuilt several times. Its current building was constructed in 1946 and is earmarked for redevelopment again; this time it will get a wonderful new facade and interior that reflects the modern style of the 21st Century.

Within Mostenses Market, you can find a wide variety of fresh produce and gourmet goods with a focus on Mexican, South American and Asian cuisines. Don’t forget to bring your camera – the vibrant stalls are piled so high they make for great photo opportunities.

Dining on authentic paella

When you think of Spanish food, paella springs to mind. This flavour-packed rice dish has been cooked in vast pans and served up to the people of Spain for centuries. A few restaurants in the city specialise in paella, so it's easy to book a table and ensure you experience the authentic flavours of one of Spain’s iconic foods.

La Paella de la Reina on Calle Reina is highly recommended, and La Barraca, located on the same street, will happily cook paella for one, which is uncommon in Spain. If you want to learn to make this delicious dish yourself, you can sign up for a paella cooking class that teaches the art of authentic Spanish cooking.
