Attractions near the Hilton Manchester Deansgate
Catch a match at Old Trafford
Manchester United is England's most-successful football team and one of the most-revered sides in Europe. Their home ground, Old Trafford Football Stadium, is the largest arena currently in use, with regular League, Cup and European matches played there. If you're in England during the football season, which runs from August through to May, there's a good chance your trip will coincide with a home game.
For days when there's no football on show, visit the club’s on-site museum, which displays a fascinating range of artefacts and tells stories that are more than a century old. Guided stadium tours are also available, sometimes with past players such as Andrew Cole giving talks.
Visit the historic Rylands Library
Found on the university campus in Deansgate, the Rylands Library is an impressive sight from both the inside and the outside. Beautiful, classic Victorian architecture makes this library one of the most-visited buildings in Manchester, with the stonework and the ceiling being two major attractions.
Inside, in addition to the functioning modern library, there's a whole host of treasures including an extremely rare and incredibly valuable copy of the Gutenberg bible. The library also has an on-site cafe, which is the perfect place to soak up the historic ambiance and read on a rainy day.
