Explore the Djemaa El-Fna

One of the most popular attractions in Marrakech is the Medina and the Djemaa El-Fna. This central square hosts performances throughout the day, including snake charmers, musicians, dancers and story tellers. It is also adjacent to the souk where you can spend the day shopping for local goods and souvenirs.

Like the incredibly varied souk, the accommodation available near the Djemaa El Fna is seemingly endless. Bargain prices are the norm with Riads providing authentic accommodation with friendly service. Outside the Medina, the city centre provides more westernised hotels with many mid-range and luxury options available. This includes hotels by Sofitel and Ibis.

Discover the oasis of the Palmeraie

Most travellers that come to Marrakech instantly gravitate toward the old town, but there are plenty of other attractions to keep you entertained. This includes the lush greenery of La Palmeraie. 13,000 hectares of land houses over 15,000 palms along with luxury resorts and galleries. Visitors also have the opportunity to take a camel or quad trek to explore the area.

La Palmeraie is a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and it just so happens that luxury accommodation is readily available. A plethora of resorts ensure you will have no trouble booking a night or two. The prestigious Ksar Char-Bagh is a 5-star resort set amongst four hectares of gardens with stunning Moroccan architecture and three swimming pools.

Just outside the city

With the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert located within close proximity, Marrakech offers travellers the chance to get off the beaten path to discover some of the region's natural beauty. Rural villages pepper the mountains with such highlights as the Berber markets of Amizmiz providing unexpected surprises. Alternatively, a trek into the desert is a great way to experience the vast beauty of the Erg Chebbi or Erg Chegaga.

Accommodation through the more remote areas of Marrakech isn't as diverse, but you can still find a comfortable place to stay the night.  Desert treks generally offer overnight accommodation in traditional Berber tents. As for the mountains, the Maroc Lodge is the only hotel in Amizmiz but it provides quality rooms with friendly service.
