Over five centuries of beauty

Instigated by Giangaleazzo Visconti in 1387, Milan Cathedral is so huge and extravagant it took almost six centuries to complete. The pearly-pink Candoglia marble facade, embellished with 135 spires and over 3200 statues, is a fairytale, and the interior is equally magnificent.

Marvel at the numerous stained-glass windows, artworks and relics inside the Cathedral, and wander down to the impressive early-Christian baptistery and crypt, where a rock-crystal casket displays the remains of the Catholic saint, Carlo Borromeo. Afterwards, reflect on the beauty and wonder of the magnificent Cathedral over a bite to eat at one of the cafes dotted around Duomo Square.

Window shop

For a glimpse into Milan’s esteemed fashion scene, head to the prestigious Quadrilatero d'Oro; a cluster of high-end fashion boutiques located just north of the Duomo. This is one of the most up-market fashion districts in the world, alongside New York’s Fifth Avenue and the Avenue des Champs Elysees in Paris.

Take an afternoon stroll around the smart pedestrian streets of the ‘rectangle of gold’, checking out the window displays of Gucci, Versace, Dolce and Gabbana, Armani, Mui Mui and many more. There’s no harm in looking!
