Dive wrecks and reefs
Although your hotel is located in a quiet location, there’s still plenty to do here. Water sports are especially popular, with snorkelling, diving and windsurfing being among the best-loved activities.
Nearby Alyssa Diving Centre runs beginner courses and also takes certified divers out to the many dive sites in the area. Just in front of your hotel you’ll find one of the most visited dive sites – the wreck of a 16-metre German war plane that was shot down by the French army in World War II. There are lots of shallow dive sites along the coast too, where you can see the stunning marine life among the colourful reefs close to shore.
Explore an ancient fort
There are some amazing old ruins in and around Monastir, some of them UNESCO World Heritage sites. Not far from your hotel you’ll find the historic bastion Ribat el Monastir. This 8th-century fort has guarded the city and its people against invaders over the years, including the Vikings, Berbers and pirates.
If you visit, make sure you save some energy to climb the stairs to the viewing platform where you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding city and countryside. Meander through the maze of corridors and explore the nooks and crannies that have been party to so much history. There’s a small Islamic art museum on the first floor that’s worth a visit, too.
