Attractions near The Plaza
Parade up Park Avenue
As the most filmed building in New York City, The Plaza is truly a destination itself. At any given time of the year the hotel hosts a range of events in their various chandelier-lit function rooms. As a result the hotel is often filled with glamourous energy and A-list guests.
On the cusp of the Upper East Side, the Plaza is a fantastic base for exploring the famous icons on Fifth Avenue, Madison Avenue and Park Avenue. For art aficionados the Plaza is within walking distance of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Simply referred to as The Whitney, the gallery mainly focuses on the colourful and at times controversial works of American artists of the 20th and 21st century. Further up town you can also visit the legendary Guggenheim. Famed for its modern architecture, the museum features an iconic collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early modern art.
Top of the Rock
From the Plaza you can also stroll a few blocks downtown to Rockefeller Centre. Built by the Rockefeller family, the complex features 19 commercial buildings including Radio City Music Hall, the headquarters of NBC and the Today Show studios amongst others. The Centre often hosts a number of events throughout the year including famous art works, concerts and an ice rink in the winter months.
The centre is best visited though for its view. At 30 Rock you can venture up to the Top of the Rock observation deck, located on the 70th floor of the Art Decor skyscraper. The observation deck spans 3 floors both indoor and outdoor, allowing you to take in a breath-taking panoramic view of the city.
