Meander around the markets
In the heart of Nice’s Old Town, Cours Saleya Square is where Nice comes alive, because of its popularity with locals and tourists. The famous flower market is here almost every day of the week, as well as arts and crafts, fresh produce and antique markets. The fruit and vegetable market has been deemed one of the best in France by the National Council of Culinary Arts.
Nice hosts a number of other markets. From May to September, Cours Salaya is home to an evening craft market, while a painting market takes over the Place Palais de Justice. The Marche aux Puces (flea market) can be visited in Place Robilante, the antique books market is in Place Palais de Justice and the fish market is held every morning in Place Saint-Francois.
See Chagall’s famed biblical works
French artist Marc Chagall is famous around the world for his colourful impressionist paintings and for the magnificent circular ceiling he painted in the Palais Garnier Opera House in Paris. When in Nice, a visit to The National Marc Chagall Museum is highly recommended if you want to see his renowned works.
The Museum is home to the largest assortment of Chagall’s artwork and the biggest drawcards of the permanent collection are his 17 celebrated biblical pieces. It also showcases more than 400 of his other paintings, drawings and pastels.
