Attractions near the Saint James Albany

See the luminous Sainte-Chapelle

Sainte-Chapelle is one of Europe’s exquisite examples of Gothic architecture, built by Saint Louis in the heart of the Palais de la Cite. It has a stunning array of stained-glass windows and each one transforms the light into a unique arrangement of colour.

Damaged badly during the French Revolution and restored in the 19th Century, Sainte-Chapelle amazingly retains one of the largest collections of originally-positioned stained glass in the world. It's a site steeped in religious history, so make sure you take a guided tour to learn about the symbolic nature of the glass windows and the detailed Bible scenes they depict.

Visit the Decorative Arts Museum

The Decorative Arts Museum is located in a building adjoining the Louvre. Housing around 150,000 objects, the Museum’s impressive collections offer interesting perspectives on the history of decorative arts, from the Middle Ages to present day.

There's a diverse array of ceramics, glass, jewellery and toys. You can examine simple yet informative items such as tiepins, dollhouses, wallpaper, plastic objects, shark’s skin and stained glass. Each item has a fascinating story to tell about French craftsmanship and the art of living. The Museum’s exhibits are displayed in chronological order, so you don’t need to worry about where to start.
