White-water rafting adventures
Tropical Far North Queensland is the perfect place to ride the rapids of a raging river. There are destinations for beginners, intermediates and advanced thrill-seekers all within driving distance of pristine Port Douglas.
Intermediate-level rafters can trek through rainforest before riding the rapids of Russell River. Beginners can navigate the 45 rapids along Tully River, two hours south. For the truly adventurous, advanced adrenaline junkies can be dropped into the mighty Johnstone River by helicopter for a five-day rafting and camping adventure up north.
Ride high into the mountains
Just west of Cairns and Port Douglas, the Great Dividing Range rises above the sea. Dense tropical bushland filled with native birdlife and wildlife wraps around winding creeks and rivers all the way up to the Atherton Tablelands atop the mountain range.
From Cairns, you can board the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and be lifted high into the air for panoramic 360-degree views.
