At the heart of the city
All trips to Papua New Guinea begin and end with Port Moresby. As an international hub, it is the stopping point for all travellers hoping to discover the riches of this South Pacific island. While greener shores are usually on the itinerary, the city centre warrants some exploration thanks to the Parliament Haus, National Museum and the sweep of modern hotels on offer.
Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn are among the international brands located within the city. The former features an elevated position with views of the coral sea, while the latter is perched on five hectares of landscaped gardens. If you're travelling on a budget, the Comfort Inn will help you save on accommodation.
Get back to nature
Perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of Port Moresby is the occasional demonstration of natural beauty. This is especially true of the Port Moresby Nature Park. This haven of local flora and fauna invites travellers to spot over 150 species of animals along with many tropical plants, trees and orchids.
Situated next to the University of Papua New Guinea, this natural oasis is approximately 20 minutes outside of the city. You can easily bunk up in the city and hop aboard a Public Motor Vehicle to the gardens. Taxis booked through the hotel are another option. Though, if you'd like to stay closer to the park, the 3-star Laguna Hotel is a mere five minutes away.
Just a quick stop in Port Moresby
Most travellers to Port Moresby are just passing through and don't necessarily have a lot of time to dedicate to the city. If this happens to be you, the city offers a number of accommodation options within close proximity to Jackson's International Airport.
The Airways Hotel is one such option, providing travellers with 4.5-star service within walking distance to the terminals. Set amidst a beautiful garden setting with on-site shopping, dining and spa facilities, this hotel is luxury accommodation for those on the go.
