The Trevi Fountain

One of Rome's most-famous landmarks and its most-photographed fountain, the Fontana di Trevi is a spectacular site day or night. Built in 1762, the Fontana represents the Roman celebration of the power of water  you can practically feel the force of this huge fountain as the gushing water gets louder on approach.

Surrounded by towering marble statues, Rome's largest Baroque fountain has made significant appearances in modern culture through films such as Roman Holiday, La Dolce Vita and even The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain over your shoulder, you will return to Rome one day. Consequently, an estimated 3,000 Euros gets tossed into the fountain daily!

Admire the views

Take time out away from the busy city to reflect upon the majesty of this eternal place from up high at the peaceful and scenic hill of Colle del Gianicolo. Feel free to pack up a picnic and keep your camera at the ready, before heading up the Gianicolo, one of the 'Seven Hills of Rome', to enjoy unforgettable views of ancient and modern Rome.

If you happen to be on the hill at midday, the peace will be momentarily broken by the firing of a canon, a tradition that has reminded Romans to set their clocks since the 19th Century.
