Attractions near the Hotel Eden

The Pope’s church

The Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano was commissioned by Constantine the Great and is the oldest Christian church in the world, built in 314 AD. This ancient church exudes a rich history and centuries of religious prominence, being the official cathedral of the diocese of Rome and the Pope.

You're welcome to take in Allesandro Galilei’s pretty 18th-Century facade featuring the famous statues of the twelve apostles, and to wander around the enchanting gilded interiors, ancient cloisters and Constantine’s baptistery next door. The Basilica also contains some notable relics including Jesus' blood.

The Spanish Steps

If you've researched Rome on the internet, you’ll almost certainly have seen a picture of the Spanish Steps; they’re a central attraction you won't want to miss during your holiday. The monumental stairway features the widest steps in Europe and forms part of a popular picturesque square surrounded by elegant 18th-Century buildings and pretty flowers.

The twelve flights of stairs, built by Francesco de Sanctis in 1723, climb a steep slope from Piazza di Spagna to the pretty church of Trinita dei Monti. The steps were made famous in modern culture after featuring in the Audrey Hepburn movie Roman Holiday.
