Basilica Di Santa Prassede
The austere facade of this 9th-Century basilica does little to prepare visitors for the breathtaking artwork of the ancient mosaics inside. Delight in the charming authenticity of this Byzantine basilica, which sits tucked away on a small side street close to the great Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
In addition to the beautiful mosaics, the church houses a section of a column brought back from Jerusalem, which is supposedly the pillar upon which Jesus was flogged. Art lovers will also enjoy seeing the Bust of Monsignor Giovanni Battista Santorini, thought to be one of the earliest works of the great artist Bernini, carved when he was just 17 years old.
From the hotel, it's an easy walk across to the delightful gardens of Villa Borghese, where you can escape the hustle of the city amongst beautifully landscaped public gardens in the heart of Rome. Wander around and relax in the tranquil ambience of the gardens, while discovering the many notable attractions housed within including the Galleria Borghese art museum, Villa Medici, and the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna.
You can rent a bike to cover more ground or enjoy a leisurely walk past the various sculptures and fountains, while enjoying fabulous views of Rome.
