Discover the home of Swedish royalty

Delight at one of Europe's largest and most magnificent palaces, the Royal Palace. Just a short stroll from the hotel on Stadsholmen, the Italian Baroque-style official residence of the Swedish royal family mostly dates back to the 18th Century, rebuilt after a large fire destroyed most of the 16th-Century structures.

If you don't have time to take a tour of the palace's opulent interiors, simply admire the resplendent facade and try can catch the iconic Changing of the Guard ceremony, which takes place each day. During the summer months, the Royal Guard take things up a notch, marching through the city with a military band.

Vasa Museum

Venture back in time to an age where sea-faring voyages of discovery were paramount to the expansion of a country's sovereignty and colonisation of the New World was taking place. The Vasa Museum is an exhibition centre housing the ill-fated Swedish warship Vasa, which sunk in Stockholm Harbour on its maiden voyage in 1628.

Most of the ship is original, salvaged from the harbour and painstakingly reconstructed in the 1960s. You'll feel as though you've stepped onto the scene of a pirate movie when you gaze at the most complete 17th-Century shipwreck in the world, with ornate wooden carvings and cannon holes.
