Get in touch with the animal kingdom in Bali by befriending an elephant or two. Here, you can hand-feed the elephants and watch them playfully bathe in the lake.
A must-see is the famous and beautiful elephant paintings, which the animals sctually paint themselves. You can watch them create these artistic works at various times throughout the day. Be selective when visiting animal parks in Bali as not all are as reputable as this one.
Meet the local monkeys
One of Bali's best wildlife experiences is on your doorstep in Ubud, when you follow the local macaques to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary that they call home. Approximately 600 monkeys inhabit this protected forest in the heart of the old city, and they're always happy to pose for photos – especially if you buy some bananas at the entrance.
The monkey forest also houses a sacred temple. Visitors should make sure their shoulders and legs are covered to show proper respect before stepping inside. Sarongs are available to hire.
