Visit the Church of Christus Kirche

Christus Kirche, meaning Christ’s Church, was the first Evangelical Lutheran church to be built in Namibia. Following the foundation of the faith in Windhoek in 1896 by a German pastor, the church was constructed and then consecrated in 1910.

Featuring Neo-Romantic and Art Nouveau architecture, the church is built from local Windhoek sandstone and Italian Carrarian marble. The roof, stained glass windows and other features were designed and built by specialist German firms. The church has been renovated extensively and is an excellent example of German architecture in Windhoek.

Explore a fascinating nature reserve

Established to preserve and protect the native flora and fauna of the area, Namibrand Nature Reserve is definitely worth visiting when in Windhoek. A short drive from your hotel, this sprawling nature park is one of the largest in southern Africa, covering more than 200,000 hectares.

This private nature reserve works to conserve the unique ecology of southern Namibia, including large parts of the Namib desert. This area is important for migratory birds and other wildlife that live and breed in the sand dunes, plains and mountain ranges, all now a part of this nature reserve. Visitors can join a guide to explore on a hike, a four-wheel drive tour, or even in a hot air balloon.
