Walk the Chinese and Indian quarters
For a truly authentic experience in Yangon, look no further than the narrow streets of the Chinese and Indian quarters downtown. These chaotic streets are always filled with people buying and selling fresh produce and exotic goods.
You can taste some of the region’s best local specialties at the sidewalk stalls or simply take a seat and watch the heart of Yangon beating in this hectic precinct. The Chinese and Indian quarters are known for preparing meat and seafood in plain sight and doing so with incredible skill.
Relax by Kandawgyi Lake
Just outside the hotel are the lush gardens that surround one of Yangon’s most popular recreation areas: Kandawgyi Lake. Although street noise infiltrates the park, this is a welcome escape from the hectic streets of downtown Yangon. On the southern side of the Lake is the floating Shin Upagot shrine, said to protect humans against moral danger. To the east of the lake, you can find the government-financed Karaweik Park Project, which has a controversial design.
Kandawgyu Lake is one of the best places to see the sunset in Yangon. It's easy to find a good spot on the eastern side, where you can enjoy stunning views of the sun shining on the golden Shwedagon Pagoda across the water.
