From December 2019, Carnival Splendor will be calling Sydney home, and will be the newest and largest cruise ship to be homeported year-round in Australia. As well as all the classic features that Carnival Cruise Lines enthusiasts love (like the outstanding kids’ club), Carnival Splendor will offer the new Green Lightning thrill-slide in the water park, four new restaurants featuring fresh international flavours, and a multitude of enhancements across the ship. Carnival’s Funship 2.0 features that make the cruise line a big favourite with Aussies include Guy’s Burger Joint, RedFrog Pub and the adults-only Serenity retreat. With cruises to the South Pacific and shorter ‘Fun Size’ cruises such as Weekend Samplers to Tasmania or Moreton Island, Carnival Splendor is looking like a great way to cruise in 2020 and beyond. Below you’ll find a brief guide to everything you can expect to find aboard a Carnival Splendor cruise.

Carnival Splendor Onboard Experiences

Dining and bars

Guests embarking on a Carnival Splendor cruise can look forward to four new restaurants. Masala Tiger offers delicious Tandoori-style cooking with a menu that changes daily; Fahrenheit 555 serves up mouthwatering steaks; Pizzeria del Capitano is an authentic taste of Italy on the high seas; and Seafood Shack is a New England-style seafood restaurant, serving up tasty meals such as the Lobster BLT. These venues are in addition to the already extensive choice of dining options onboard. For the kids (big and small), Green Eggs And Ham Breakfast serves up fantastical morning fare and the Chef’s Table VIP experience giving you the chance to enjoy a delectable multi-course dinner, hosted by one of Carnival’s master chefs. Bars are also plentiful, with many different options for enjoying a drink. There’s the tropical-themed RedFrog Rum Bar, Alchemy Bar for the perfect cocktail, and Blue Iguana Tequila Bar, just to name a few.

On Carnival Splendor cruises, you can be as active or as laid-back as you like. Anyone with energy to burn will appreciate the two pools, two spas, sports deck with mini golf, running track and sports courts on board. The waterpark has also been redesigned, with the addition of the Green Lightning thrill ride which twists and turns around the 104-metre long yellow Twister Waterslide. Carnival Waterworks will also include MiniRacer slides, splash toys and The Power Drencher tipping bucket, so the whole family can enjoy the splashy water fun. Indoor activities include games – from physical challenges to kids v. adults trivia; cooking demonstrations; art seminars; build-a-bear workshops for the kids; dive-in movies; Lip Sync Battle and more.

Kids and families

Carnival Splendor makes kids and families very welcome. As well as all the family-friendly activities like the WaterWorks theme park, games and dive-in movies, Carnival Cruise Lines offers a fantastic kids’ club called Camp Ocean. Here, children aged 2 to 11 can join supervised, age-based groups where they can fill their days with fun things to do, all within the care of Carnival’s experience child counsellors. Activities include scavenger hunts, cooking classes, dance lessons, group sports or simply free time to play. Carnival Splendor also offers special menus for children at most onboard dining venues, as well as family-friendly cabin configurations, which include interconnecting doors.

Fitness and wellbeing

Extending the length of three football fields, just walking around Carnival Splendor is one way to clock up some physical activity. If you fancy something a little more strenuous, head to the gym for yoga, Pilates, boot camp or book a personal trainer for a few sessions. There are also myriad ways for you to nurture your wellbeing onboard, with Cloud 9 Spa offering a range of treatments such as massages, facials, body wraps, thermal suites and, exclusive to Carnival Splendor, the Thalassotherapy Pool. This is a therapeutic sea-water pool, allowing your body to absorb all the beneficial minerals and salts from the water. There are also water jets in the spa pool for a completely invigorating experience.

Shows and nightlife

Carnival Splendor guarantees you a choice of fantastic entertainment, every night of your cruise. Leading the nightlife is Playlist Productions, Carnival’s own original show format which takes the songs you know and love, and turns them into full scale musical productions, performed by a stellar cast. There’s also the Punchliner Comedy Club for the latest stand-up; Lip Sync Battle: Carnival; live theatre and stage shows; the Piano Bar; live music and, for anyone who loves a dance, the Carnival Nightclub which hosts some unmissable parties.

Services and accessibility

Carnival Cruise Lines is committed to ensuring all passengers have a relaxing and enjoyable cruising holiday. Crew members provide attentive service, and ships have a variety of accessible features. These include accessible elevators at each elevator point, accessible routes throughout most areas of the ship, fully accessible cabins, a visual/tactile cabin alert system, as well as Braille signage, indicating cabin numbers and public room names. There are 26 wheelchair-accessible cabins aboard Carnival Splendor cruises, with wider doors, roll-in showers, grab bars and turning space.
