The building itself was originally constructed as a drainage pumping station in 1870 and was architecturally adapted for its use as a gallery for the official opening in 1933. There are 688 works displayed as part of the permanent collection and over 12,000 sketches and other minor works. The gallery places a strong focus on local artists with works by Antonio Berni, Eduardo Sivori and Alfredo Guttero gracing the walls.
Arguably, Argentina produces and prepares the best steak in the world. Savouring the generous servings of meat in Buenos Aires is a must-do activity with the fine-dining restaurants in Palermo fulfilling your carnivorous desires. Enjoy the meal with a fine Argentine wine and you'll be in culinary heaven.
There are many interesting Argentinean destinations. Perhaps consider catching a plane to the Iguazu falls, north of the capital on the Brazilian border.
