The port handles the greatest tonnage of any in Australia and iron ore exits in vast quantities, but there are also life-rich mangroves, the main beachfront has a sea turtle rookery and affords views from several lookouts. From here you might spot several varieties of dolphins.
If you do want a closer look at industry, tours of the port and iron ore operations are available. There's also a Heritage of Hedland bus tour and you can get a look at the Royal Flying Doctor School of the Air. Flights to Port Hedland can be booked through Flight Centre.
