Flights to Fraser Island
What to know before you fly to Fraser Island?
Summertime on Fraser Island is also the wettest time, due to the subtropical climate. That said, squalls tend to pass quickly and before you know it, it’ll be hot again. Summer temperatures range from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius, and can get as hot as 36 degrees although the sea breezes tend to keep the high temperatures down. Wintertime is also a great time to visit, although note that the nights during winter can get chilly with the mercury dropping to lows of -1 degrees Celsius during July. Holiday season over Christmas is especially busy, with the Easter break also a popular time for families to visit Fraser Island. Between the months of November and February you may be lucky enough to catch sight of Green or Loggerhead Turtles migrating to Fraser Island and nearby Lady Elliot Island to lay their eggs.
Airports at Fraser Island
Fraser Island, although accessible by plane, doesn’t have an airport as such. Light aircraft can make their landing at one of the designated strips along the eastern beach, on the grassy airstrip at Orchid Beach or at Wanggoolba airstrip.
