Larrikin humour and laidback lifestyle... Welcome to Darwin

Darwin has two seasons – wet and dry – and while some remote places may be no-go areas during the wet weather, the balmy tropical temperatures mean it's always a good time to visit.

Making the most of its warm climate, Darwin embraces outdoor activities in all guises. Local markets are a must-do attraction including the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets which purveys a range of Asian foods, art and craft stalls and street entertainment. The Deckchair Cinema is another popular way to while away the night-time outdoors, or sail around the harbour on a yacht or historic pearl lugger.

Surrounded by lush wetlands, billabongs and tropical vegetation, there's plenty to see around Darwin too. Close by is Litchfield National Park, Mary River and the Tiwi Islands offering bushwalking, wildlife, indigenous culture and beautiful scenery. For a more adrenalin-inducing sight, you can't go past a close encounter with giant crocs on a crocodile 'jumping' tour on Adelaide River as these monstrous reptiles lunge at dangling meat.
