We can’t quite cross the borders yet, but our favourite wines, cheeses and more, can cross them to get to you. Now that dinner parties (with a select few) are back on the table, here’s a few delivery services that’ll help you not only support farmers and producers in your local region, and around Australia, but also impress your guests with unique Aussie flavours - along with your home baked sourdough of course.
First, Go Straight To The Source
One of the best ways to support our Aussie farmers and makers is shopping with them online, even if we can’t get there in person. Many of the small cheesemongers, pork farmers and chili sauce creators from remote Flinders Island to South West WA (and everywhere in between), don’t have the distribution channels that their bigger competitors do. So if you’ve been given a recommendation for a chutney, a cheese, an oil, or a wine, google it and order directly from the source. The cured prosciutto and sheep’s milk cheese you ordered from Tassie is sure to give you a story to discuss over your charcuterie board that’s better than one about a socially distanced trip to the supermarket.
Australia wide
If you’re not sure where to start, or haven’t been given a recommendation, here are a few options for discovering the best Aussie producers, with someone else doing the hard work. Aussies love wine, so it makes sense that most of our national delivery services are for wine. Looks like it’s time for a tour of Australia’s best wine regions, right?
Vinomofo
Good value deals on wines from around Aus and around the globe, Vinomofo does up to 50% off some wines in their black market range - the catch being that you don’t know the winery until they arrive at your front door. It’s a great way to sample drops from different areas of Australia with someone else making the choice for you.
Naked Wines
With an almost all-Australian range of wines, Naked Wines use a subscription model where wine drinkers (that’s us) pay $40 a month to fund independent winemakers, and in return you get wines at wholesale prices. You can rate and review each wine, and read others reviews, to help you choose the ones that are right for you.
Good Pair Days
Starting with an online palate quiz, your tastes are recorded and the knowledgeable team - including a three-time sommelier of the year winner, hand pick wines you’re bound to love. You can get personal recommendations, or choose from the range yourself, and when they rock up at your door, you’ll get food pairing and recipe recommendations to match. You can also tune in to tasting conversations on zoom, or Instagram and Facebook live.
Beer Cartel
We couldn’t do a list of delivery services and leave the beer out; it’d be unaustralian. Beer Cartel is the Dan Murphy’s of craft beer, stocking brews from countries right around the world. Click on the Australia section and you’ll find over 1500 different search results. They’ve also got a self-isolation ‘quarantinnie’ pack for a tour around the country one can at a time.
