Virgin Australia was recognised yesterday as one of the best in the world by Airline Ratings. Known as the world's foremost safety and product rating website, the global airline rating agency handed out their annual Airline Excellence Awards for 2017 and named Virgin Australia's Business Class the best in the global airline market. The Virgin Group (Virgin Australia, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America) also topped the list for the Best Cabin Crew in the world.
The award is welcomed news for the airline, which just refurbished their business class offering on their Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330-200 fleet. Group Executive Virgin Australia Airlines, John Thomas said, "We are also delighted to have our new Business Class experience recognised as second to none. Each touch point was considered in the design of the Business Class suite."
Now known as 'The Business', this new cabin class was praised for the revamped class, particularly the lie-flat seat that transforms into a bed with a triple-layer cushion and hammock-style sub-frame that ensures a comfortable sleep. Designed by London based agency tangerine, 'The Business' has already received plenty of attention in the industry. It was awarded a Good Design Award 2016 and Red Dot Award 2016. It was also a finalist in the Cabin Concepts category at the Crystal Cabin Awards for 2016.
The individual private suites, in a 1-2-1 configuration, all feature direct aisle access with ample space and Luke Mangan-designed menus. The Boeing 777 aircraft offer the added bonus the largest in-flight entertainment screen on routes between Australia and North America as well as a Business Class Bar hosted by the Virgin Australia Cabin Crew.
"... Our Cabin Crew bring 'The Business' to life for guests travelling on our Airbus A 330 and Boeing 777 aircraft," said Mr Thomas. "We are very proud to once again have our incredible Cabin Crew recognised for being the best in the world. Every time you step on a Virgin Australia aircraft, our Cabin Crew's infectious enthusiasm and commitment to providing great service is evident."
Other top winners for the night included Virgin Australia partner Air New Zealand, taking home the 2017 Airline of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.
