Tonight marks 30 years celebrating Queensland's best in show, with Dreamworld, Woodford Folk Festival and the XXXX Brewery just some of the businesses taking top honours in the 2014 Queensland Tourism Awards.

With Brisbane still in recovery-mode following a stormy battering on Thursday afternoon, Queensland Tourism's night of nights brightened the mood at the Royal International Convention Centre in Bowen Hills.

Region-on-region, Tropical North Queensland came out on top with 21 awards out of a possible 82, while Brisbane claimed second spot with 17.

The Awards, presented by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, cover 32 categories across the Queensland tourism spectrum, acknowledging the best attractions, events, tours, accommodation and restaurants in the Sunshine State.

Judged by a panel of experts – from marketing specialists to hoteliers, business mentors and hospitality heavyweights – the Awards serve to recognise excellence within the tourism sector, as well as to raise the standards of state-wide operators in a $23billion industry.

“Operators who strive to find something extra, and give tourists an experience they will never forget, should be congratulated," says Minister for Tourism Jann Stuckey.

This year's 30th anniversary celebrations saw Brisbane's Emporium Hotel and the Gold Coast's Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat added to the Hall of Fame - having won their category for three consecutive years. They now rank alongside past champions including the Gold Coast Airport Marathon and Australia Zoo.

Individual awards and commendations were received by Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort's Peter Gash, Bradley Illich from NewBook eManagement Technology, and Rebecca Holmes from Mackay Tourism.

In addition to the kudos received from peers and industry leaders, the Awards provide winners with a competitive advantage, allowing them to promote themselves as the top of the crop and 'supercharge' their businesses through greater exposure.
