It’s a one (super) size-fits-all kind of holiday in this land of spectacular scenery, recognisable roads and iconic cities. Nothing is done by halves in the United States so you can trust your travel experiences will be nothing short of great. All you need to do is look up.
Black Hills, South Dakota
The memorial depicts the first four presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
A lack of funds meant the figures weren’t able to be carved from head to waist.
Redwood National and State Parks
You can drive through the Klamath Tour Thru Tree, Myers Flat Shrine Tree and Leggett Chandelier Tree.
Redwoods can grow taller than 91 metres and live up to 2,000 years.
Rocky Mountain National Park
Colorado’s Rocky Mountains boasts the Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved road in the US at an elevation of 3,713 metres (at its highest point).
The national park includes 577 kilometres of hiking trails, 150 lakes and 60 mountains taller than 3,658 metres.
Golden Gate Bridge
San Francisco, California
The colour of the bridge is ‘International Orange’ and was partly chosen for its visibility in the fog.
There are enough kilometres of wire in the two main bridge cables to circle the world three times at the equator.
