Nature lovers don’t have to wander too far to find their bliss in Auckland. Black and golden beaches line the east and west coasts, thousands of kilometres of walking trails squiggle the landscapes and sheltered harbours make the perfect launch pad for scenic journeys.

Just 40 minutes from bustling downtown will find you in the heart of ancient rainforests, while a 25-minute ferry ride will set you at the base of a rugged volcanic island, ready to scale to new heights.

Get acquainted with Auckland’s land and sea over a long weekend, with Flight Centre's custom-made Scenic Auckland 4 nights 4-star itinerary.

Get back to nature in Auckland's wild west

DAY 1

Touch down in Auckland and be whisked to your base for the weekend: the stylish Scenic Hotel Auckland. Once you’ve unpacked and refreshed, take a stroll down Queen Street towards the Britomart precinct for dinner at one of the city’s trendiest bars and restaurants.

DAY 2

Venture out to Auckland’s wild west on a West Coast Half Day Tour with the multi award-winning TIME Unlimited Tours. Over four jam-packed hours exploring the famous Waitakere Ranges, you will be immersed in the heart of subtropical rainforest splashed with stunning waterfalls, and set foot on dramatic black sand beaches with the sea spray whipping through your hair.

This small group tour keeps things intimate as you embrace the serenity of Auckland’s west coast.

Explore the black sands of Piha Beach

DAY 3

Fill your belly at the hotel or a nearby cafe before setting out on a half-day Auckland City Sights Tour. Local guides will lead you to Auckland’s must-see sights, including Auckland Domain – a historic park sitting snugly in the cone of an extinct volcano.

Swing by Viaduct Harbour, the waterfront precinct that super yachts call home, and the quaint village of Parnell, which holds prestige as Auckland’s oldest suburb. Cruise along the coastal Tamaki Drive to the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park to soak in the beautiful backdrop of the city skyline before enjoying the afternoon at your leisure.

DAY 4

Get right to the core of Auckland’s natural wonder with a half day Rangitoto Explorer Tour with Fullers Auckland. Discover the island’s fiery past on a rangerguided 4WD tour, and learn just what makes Auckland’s largest and youngest volcano so unique.

Traverse rugged lava crops and native bush before taking an easy 30-minute trek to the volcano’s summit via scenic boardwalks. Catch one last glimpse of Auckland city from afar from the peak before ferrying back to shore.

 Paddling out in Auckland

DAY 5

Never kayaked before? There’s no time like the present! Auckland Sea Kayaks will take you on a guided half day paddle across the Waitemata Harbour on your final morning in Auckland. Journey out to the island of Motukorea – an untouched paradise only accessible by kayaks and private boats – where you will scale to the crater summit of one of Auckland’s best preserved volcanoes.

Enjoy a tasty morning tea on the beach before the gentle paddle back to Auckland, where you will pack up and depart for the airport.
