Bali for the Young or Young at Heart

6 October 2011

Flight Centre's Ebony Conroy takes a spontaneous trip with some girlfriends to Bali. Ebony spends time in Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, Padang Padang and Jimbaran Bay. Their experiences include beautiful beaches, surfing, water rafting and elephant rides. Ebony is enchanted by the warm nature and culture of the Balinese people. Ebony, tell us about your trip to Bali.

Bali is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations for a quick getaway that's not going to break the bank account. After hearing rave reviews from friends and family, myself and three girlfriends decided to check out what all the fuss was about, and boy was it worth it!

Having spontaneously planned and paid for our Bali adventure all in the one day, one month later, a quick seven hour flight and a few cocktails and we'd landed at the tiny Denpasar airport. First stop was the ''Surfer's Paradise'' of Bali, Kuta! Rich in culture and buzzing with people, markets and a fantastic nightlife, Kuta is the ultimate party place if you're looking for a great night on the town. Being on a budget, we stayed at the Bounty Hotel, for the young or young at heart, situated smack bang in the middle of Kuta. It was close to both the shops and the beach.

The first couple of days were spent soaking up the sun in Seminyak, enjoying cheap facials around Legian and taking advantage of the shopping everywhere! We were keen to do some exploring of our own, so for a bargain $40 a day we simply hired a driver and went anywhere! From the beautiful beaches of Padang Padang, the delicious seafood at Jimbaran Bay, surf lessons, water rafting, fishing trips and the breath taking rice paddies, we sampled it all! By the end of the trip I had fallen in love with the little island for its warm natured people, relaxing vibe, quirky culture and fantastic restaurants.

Not only did my spur-of-the-moment booking mean a million memories and an unforgettable experience, but it also landed me my position as a travel agent with Flight Centre and for that, Bali will always be one of my favourite destinations.
