Breaking News: Santa Spotted In Queensland

The elusive big man in red has finally let his guard down. The infamous Mr Claus has been spotted gallivanting around the Sunshine State, sneaking koala cuddles in the Far North and crafting sandy snowmen in the sunny South East.

In a region where 'White Christmas' refers only to powdery beaches and crunchy pavlova, jolly old Saint Nick has ditched the sleigh for more appropriate modes of transportation, including stand-up paddle boards and a sturdy set of flippers.

"This place sparkles brighter than the tinsel on a Christmas tree - and it’s all natural!” said Mr Claus.

Our inside sources at Tourism Queensland managed to capture the global gift-giver as he leisurely explored the state. Unconfirmed reports say Mr Claus' present deliveries were finished ahead of schedule, awarding him some much-needed down time.

All that stand-up paddle boarding has Santa looking more svelt than ever. Mr Claus still a few last-minute gifts to deliver on the Gold Coast, but he will get them there regardless of wind, rain or choppy swell.

Santa chooses to take his traditional post-feast nap bobbing around the Great Barrier Reef. We hope he remembered to slip, slop, slap and wait 30 minutes after eating all those prawns before hitting the water.

He knows when you've been sleeping, he knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been bad or good, he knows that Palm Cove is one of our top travel destinations for 2015.

Santa gave the elves some time off (everyone seemed to want a GoPro this year, anyway). Instead, he enlisted the help of Forrest the koala to spread some joy around Far North Queensland.
