Scott Wright, a Flight Centre Global Product expert, is an avid cyclist. Luckily for the Brisbane-based team member, the Queensland capital has a terrific cycle path that follows the Brisbane River.

"I have cycled, walked and even roller-bladed the paths around Brisbane city and in particular the picturesque river. As you follow the river, the variation changes with every twist and turn. After work or on the weekends, it's a fantastic place to unwind from the stresses of daily life. However, for the visitor, these paths offer a great way to appreciate the beauty of Brisbane."

The Iconic Story Bridge

"Brisbane makes it easy to explore her heart. Her sizable river and compact CBD make for an enjoyable exploration with many variations in an 8-10 km circuit."

Publicly Available Bikes

"The beauty is that most of the pathways are flat and have plenty of room for bikes and walkers. There are also public bicycles available for a small hire fee ($2 per day) at the many depots along the way. So it's easy to combine a cycle with some walking and even a CityCat cruise."

Eagle Street Pier

"Let's start our day with a riverside breakfast. There is a lot to chose from, just stroll along the River Side walk way. You may think Brisbane's culinary scene falls short of her bigger city cousins. Well not so. Brisbane has a very strong coffee culture and there are plenty of great places to eat. Now that you are fuelled up and ready for an adventure pick up your bike at one of the hundred stations around the city."

The Story Bridge From New Farm

"As you cycle, you're sure to be joined by joggers along the way."

Cycling Along Kangaroo Point

"Whilst Brisbane's winters are clear and dry, the foreboding storm on occasions creates a dramatic backdrop over the river and city skyscape."

Continue the Cycle Around the River

"This is one of my favourite paths along the river - there are many alcoves and rest areas along the way allowing you to bask in the warm winter sun. The paths split into separate walking and bike tracks allowing everyone to go at their own pace."

The Brisbane Skyline From Kangaroo Point

"Kangaroo Point is  a haven of outdoor activity. You will notice rock climbers on the red cliffs towering over the river, perhaps some tightrope walkers practising on the grass below. You could even hire a ski to take a paddle up the river. If you feel there are more calories that need burning, try hiking up the stairs to the top of the cliffs for some sweeping views across Brisbane city."

GOMA

"At the far end of the pathway is GOMA, the Gallery of Modern Art. It's a spectacular building and worth having a look around just for the ambience; enjoy their restaurant upstairs or their more casual cafe out the front by the river."

The Cycle Path Continues...

"If cruising by the river is having a calming effect on your soul and you need more of it, head back the way you came. There is also bike station ready here for a change of transport action, if you so desire."

Sunset Over the Brisbane River

"If your cycling day is done, leave the bike, hop on the ferry and you are back at riverside from where you started. Otherwise, you have the option of cycling up over the Story Bridge with stunning views along the river, and then down into the city. Back in time to stakeout your evening dinning option of choice."
