When you're visiting a city for the first time there's nothing better than getting tips from a local on where to eat, where to shop, and for unique suggestions beyond the usual guide book inklings!

We caught up with Edinburgh local Jo Radford, Head Bartender at Timberyard, for his insider scoop on the city, including where to find the best meal-and-view combination.

Blackfriars – Blackfriars and Lucky Liquor are two stylish yet relaxed bars in the city centre. Lucky Liquor is an award-winner, setting standards for cocktails in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Arthur's Seat provides stunning city views


Arthur's Seat – Climb Arthur’s Seat to drink in views of the whole of Edinburgh and across the Firth of Forth. The Seat is at the foot of the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyrood.

Day Trip

Inver Restaurant – Head west to Inver Restaurant on Loch Fyne for food and views that are hard to beat. You can stay at Monachyl Mhor at Balquidder on the banks of Loch Voil, the burial place of Scottish folk hero Rob Roy.

Secret Tip

Jupiter Artland – Jupiter Artland is a great walk through a world-class sculpture park. Shop at Kestin Hare and Dicks, both in the Georgian area of Stockbridge near the city centre.
