Darren Quinlan from Flight Centre's after hours emergency department recently took a whirlwind holiday in South Africa. He spent one night in Johannesburg before hiring a car and driving to the famed Kruger National Park.

"This was my first time on safari. It was absolutely amazing. Words cannot describe the experience. I can't believe I waited so long to take my first safari. My friend, Luke and I drove about three hours into Kruger and checked in at our luxury mountainside lodge. The Entabeni Safari Lodge is an all-inclusive experience including accommodation, food, drinks and the safari," said Darren.

An unexpected road block

"We were going to check out some cheetahs and but this crocodile wrecked our plans. We waited there for about 10 minutes. He just wouldn't budge. I volunteered to jump out and ask him to move but that's probably not a particularly good idea. In the end, our driver decided to go around the other way - we had to drive about six kilometres in the other direction. Luckily we saw the cheetahs in the end," said Darren.

The view from our lodge

"We stayed here for two nights. It's a pretty good view - huh? This is the Entabeni Safari Lodge. The lodge was really smick. There were rivers running down the bottom - we could hear the water flowing. We had to be careful of the gorillas though because if there was food in the window they'd want some," said Darren.

Jumping into the driver's seat

"I couldn't resist jumping into the driver's seat and driving the jeep around the grounds of the lodge," said Darren.

Spotting hippopotamus

"This is pretty breathtaking. I had take a photo of this outlook. You can just see little dots in the water. They're hippopotamus. They just didn't move," said Darren.

Zebras strolling along

"We just happened to see zebras cruising around as we were out and about," said Darren.

Peak hour in the Kruger

.........................................................................................................................................................

"It was so cool to see the whole herd of elephants. We had to wait for all 10 elephants to cross the road before we could continue," said Darren.

Rhinoceros chilling out

.........................................................................................................................................................

"These rhinos tried to walk right up to the jeep. They can't see very well - the driver had to hit the side of the jeep so that they can hear the noise and feel the vibrations. This way they know not to come too close. I was just mesmerised by the sight," said Darren.

Toasting a memorable holiday

"I flew Business Class on Qantas. It was amazing food and great service. I asked the attendant to take our photo as we're toasting a wonderful holiday in South Africa," said Darren.
