Welcome to paradise – Tropical North Queensland! This magnificent region is famous for its rivalling World Heritage Areas - the reef and rainforest. Here, the lush, green Wet Tropics Rainforest goes head to head with its dazzling blue sibling, the Great Barrier Reef. It’s the only place in the world where two World Heritage areas lay side by side, making it the best place on Earth to engage with nature.

As the gateway to the world’s largest and most spectacular coral reef system, there are more than 100 ways to experience the Great Barrier Reef in Tropical North Queensland. Get up close to the 1,500 species of fish and 400 types of coral that live in this diverse ecosystem. Jump on a catamaran to a pontoon on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef, snorkel and dive straight off the back of a boat, or sway between palms on a coastal island in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

Indulge a little and take a scenic flight over the magical tapestry of the Great Barrier Reef, spotting turtles and whales before landing on a deserted sand cay to a private picnic for two. Glass-bottom boats offer an easy option to see marine life, or keep your hair dry on a helmet dive. There’s no better place to experience the Great Barrier Reef than in Tropical North Queensland.

The world’s oldest rainforest wraps around Cairns, and stretches from Cardwell in the south to Cooktown in the north. It takes in Queensland’s highest mountain on the Tropical Coast, ancient crater lakes on the Atherton Tablelands and Australia’s largest island national park near Cardwell before expanding north to the famous Daintree National Park.

Make memories and immerse yourself in the rainforest by gliding metres over the Wet Tropics canopy, past thundering Barron Falls, or zip-line through the Daintree Rainforest in Cape Tribulation. Discover the ancient culture of the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people at Mossman Gorge, with a traditional smoking ceremony and a Dreamtime walk.

The Wet Tropics is famous for its iconic mountain bike and walking trails, which lead you to icy-cold waterfalls, along ancient Aboriginal paths and on challenging tracks forged during the gold rush days. Stroll through a forest of fan palms, hike to a lookout with a view of the Great Barrier Reef, or float your way down a rainforest stream. The Wet Tropics Rainforest of Tropical North Queensland is a magical place.

Revel in the outdoor lifestyle and ease of an intimate cosmopolitan city that is adventurous by nature.

The beaches of Cairns are a short drive north of the city along the Captain Cook Highway. With its long sandy beach lapped by the Coral Sea and a backdrop of rainforest-clad mountains, the hero beach of Palm Cove offers the ultimate in tropical serenity. Experience the friendly village atmosphere of this intimate slice of paradise and relax under a coconut palm after an indulgent spa treatment or delight in a fusion of tropical delicacies.
