Nancy Alvarez takes the 'whole' family of nine on a cruise holiday in the Mediterranean and discovers that it is an ideal family holiday thanks to the broad range of entertainment, kids club, activities and cultural experiences.
When my family decided to go to Europe for the first time we chose to go on a cruise of the Mediterranean, a decision we didn't regret. Cruising can be as relaxing or active as you decide.
Rome and Istanbul
Of course the whole reason for going to Europe is to see amazing places, experience different cultures, and try amazing food. There are a lot of options when it comes to shore excursions to cater for different tastes and budgets. My favourite places were Rome and Istanbul. There's a bit of history everywhere you look, the food is fantastic and they are a heaven for shopaholics. Make sure you allow plenty of time to see the Grand Bazaar and that you have a good sense of direction or a map.
On board entertainment
For the adults the entertainment options are endless. You may want to lie by the pool all day and work on your tan or burn some off the amazing food at the gym, exercise or dance classes. Maybe bingo or cooking classes are more your style. You can go to a cocktail party on formal nights followed by a show or enjoy a concert under the starts. The entertainment team have something new every day and night to make sure you are enjoying yourself. You can also dance the night away or try your luck at the casino. Meanwhile, the children will be well looked after in the kids' club.
On board meals
The food onboard was fantastic. You can choose between buffet or à la carte for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is a seven course extravaganza. The menu changes depending on the region you are visiting that day. If that is not enough for your taste buds try the midnight buffets. Who can resist a midnight chocolate buffet?
